Once you’ve survived the 80’s rock scene, you become unstoppable – and The 69 Eyes are living proof. Formed in Helsinki in 1989 and still going strong with the same line-up some four decades later, the Helsinki Vampires have earned their legendary status. 

In a world with fewer and fewer true believers in leather jackets, midnight sunglasses and low-slung guitars, The 69 Eyes keep the Johnny Thunders’ flame burning like an endless sleazy club night back in the days.

Their biggest hit, “Lost Boys”, from 2005, was made into an iconic music video by MTV’s Jackass star and skater Bam Margera and the song still remains on annual Halloween rock playlists. 

One foot on glam, another one on goth, The 69 Eyes have released thirteen albums, reaching gold and platinum and a mainstream status in their native Finland, where they are signed to Gabi Hakanen’s Vallila Music House. Their previous studio album “Death Of Darkness” was released in 2023, and they have been touring without any notable breaks all over the world the last twenty years. 

Vocals, a lead and a rhythm guitar, a bass and drums are the classic rock band line-up. The 69 Eyes have that magic on stage that is needed for these elements to carry on beyond the rock’n’roll dreams, theirs and their cult following.

Die EP enthält vier Songs mit gerade einmal vierzehn Minuten Spielzeit…

Drei Jahre nach ihrem letzten Longplayer „Death Of Darkness“ gibt es nun eine EP und sogar Gitarrist Steve Stevens ist vertreten…Die EP startet mit dem Titel „I Survive“,der auch denn mal auch gleich ins Ohr geht und gute Laune verbreitet-incl.Steve Stevens-Part!Diese Nummer gefällt mir und macht neugierig auf mehr…Es folgt „Cold Sweat“- ein Thin Lizzy-Cover.Auch dieser Song macht Lust auf mehr…Die Cover-Nummer wurde insich gut umgesetzt!Wobei ich einmal GRUNDSÄTZLICH sagen muss,das ich immer so hin- und hergerissen bin von den Vocals von  Jyrki 69…Mag ich diese GRUNDSÄTZLICH oder nicht?Ich war bei den Vocals immer so dazwischen,denn die Stimme passt zu der Band.Punkt!

Die Restlichen 2 Songs „In The Misery“ und „Devil’s Rose“ sind so Songs die anders klingen und mehr nach THE 69 EYES,wie ich sie dann wirklich mag.Gothic-Rock…etwas kantig!

In der Gesamtheit machen diese 4 Songs HUNGER…HUNGER auf mehr…HUNGER auf ein Album,mit (natürlich) mehr Songs!Warten wir alle einfach mal ab,was da noch kommt.Wir dürfen gespannt sein.Aber ich denke,dass das Material wieder solide sein wird.So,wie es immer war!

Bluesrock-/Hard-Rock oder umgekehrt…?

Diese Mischung ist nun nicht NEU.Aber JARED JAMES NICHOLS bringt das Material mit viel Überzeugung,Energier,Elan und Power rüber.das macht schon SPAß,da zuzuhören und den ein oder anderen Part des Album Gut zu finden.

es wird auch bei dem Songmaterial nicht lange rumgekaspert.Meißtens kommt JARED JAMES NICHOLS direkt zum wesendlichen,sodass bei den Songs von Anfang an keine Langeweile aufkommt.Das vierte Studioalbum des US-Gitarristen erscheint am 5. Juni 2026-das mal so als Tip.Denn das was man hier auf die Ohren bekommt kann man schon als Tip bezeichnen.Gute Riffs und eine Stimme,die zu dem passt,was ich hier höre.Vielleicht bleibt das Material nicht unbedingt (sofort) im Ohr hängen,aber das Songwriting ist Klasse…Hinzu kommt ein guter und druckvoller Sound des Albums,das musikalisch schö dreckig und rotzig daher kommt und ein gewissen charme insich trägt.UND…ich hab so das Gefühl:HIER macht einer das das,was er will und fühlt.2015 erschien das Erste Album und nun 2026 das vierte…

Kleine Randnotiz:JARED JAMES NICHOLS soll seine Gitarre OHNE Plektrum spielen…WARUM denn nicht.Es hebt ihn,neben dem verdammt guten Songmaterial,nochmal ab von anderen.

“AcCult II” is the highly anticipated acoustic sequel to Vanden Plas’ 1996 landmark album “AcCult”. 

Stephan Lill explained how the album came to life: “When we released our first acoustic CD, “AcCult”, in 1996, it was special to us in many ways. For this release, we arranged songs from our debut album, “Colour Temple”, into new acoustic versions. And we did the same with songs by other artists or bands that didn’t necessarily fit our usual musical style. Ever since that release, we’d always had it in the back of our minds to produce another acoustic CD at some point. But then came tours, more regular CDs, many theatre productions we were involved in, and time flew by…”

“When Frontiers approached us with the idea of another acoustic CD, we knew that we had the time needed for it, and with the right songs, it could work. And we can now say, it worked out. We sticked with the concept of the first “AcCult” CD, and so “AcCult II” once again features acoustic versions of Vanden Plas songs, as well as two cover songs: “Nothing Else Matters” (Metallica) and “Boat on the River” (Styx)”, he continued. “We are more than happy that, exactly 30 years later, we can write the next “AcCult” chapter. And all Vanden Plas fans can look forward to a truly extraordinary release.”

Building on the innovative concept that first reimagined tracks from their debut “Colour Temple” in a stripped-down, unplugged setting, this new release revisits select songs from their extensive catalog with fresh acoustic arrangements, offering fans a completely new perspective on the band’s music.

In addition to reworked originals like “Far Off Grace”, “Holes In The Sky”, “The Ghost Xperiment”, and “You Fly”, “AcCult II” features inspired interpretations of classic songs by other artists, including Styx’s “Boat On The River” and Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters”, blending reverence for the originals with Vanden Plas’ signature emotional depth and musical sophistication. 

Notably, John Helliwell of Supertramp makes a guest appearance on saxophone on the album’s closing track, “You Fly”, adding a unique, melodic touch to the album’s finale.

Accoustic-Konzept…Find ich gut…

Dieses Album kling nach Vanden Plas-schon Richtig!Aber ander!Denn man hat das Accoustic-„Ding“ für sich wieder entdeckt!

Die Arrangements „rund“ insich selbst und dazu Andy Kuntz’ ausdrucksstarker Gesang-DAS hat schon was.Besonders Tiefe!Ich persönlich finde solche Alben immer interessant,weil sich da für mich wirklich zeigt,ob die Musiker „ES“ können!Das zeigt sich besonders bei der Coverversion „Boat on the River“(STYX).Da würde nicht viel verändert.So wirkt die Coversong auch nicht peinlich,wie bei so vielen „versuchen“ anderer Künstlern,eine Nummer zu covern.Und wenn man mal die anderen 7 Songs durchhört,kommt auch dieses gewisse GEFÜHL raus,das ein Accousticalbum braucht,um wirklich zu strahlen!

Insgesamt 8 Songs…UND…DAS reicht auch völlig für ein Album generell!Warum immer mehr als 10 Titel?Weniger ist meißtens mehr!Dieses Album klingt anspruchsvoll,interessant,intim fast…melancholisch-ABER auch NIE KALT!Das zeigt,das man nicht nicht unbedingt FETTE Gitarren,unkontrollierte Screams und Drums braucht,um musikalisch zu überzeugen!Gitarren, Klavier und Percussion und andere Instrumente reichen schon aus!Die Songs in der Gesamtheit gehört geben nach und nach ihre Kraft frei.Oder anders gesagt:Sie steigern sich im Verlauf!So geht Songwriting!UND so klingen 8 Songs,die „einfach“ funktionieren!

Der Mitgründer von Skid Row veröffendlicht sein ERSTES Soloalbum…Mit 62…

Und wer hier nun Neues Skid Row-Material,wird eines besseren „belehrt“!Man könnte sagen,dass das Scheibchen eher nach Alternative,Pop und etwas Punk klingt!UND…es klingt irgendwie nach „FREIschwimmen“!Vielleicht,weil der Bassist nach 40 Jahren im Musikgeschäft einfach mal sein „Ding“ macht…?Keine Ahnung.

Mehrere Leute mit bekanntem Namen in der Szene wie z.b Corey Taylor, Danko Jones, Nuno Bettencourt, Damon Johnson diverse seiner Skid-Row-Kollegen haben sich auf dem Album „verewigt“.Produziert wurde das Album von Grammy-Gewinner Nick Raskulinecz.Musikalisch klingt das Album stimmig.Man kommt schnell auf den musikalischen Punkt ohne Umwege.Da wird nicht lange gefackelt.Sehr gut!

„Punk is NOT Dead“!…werden nun viele sagen.Und dem stimme ich voll zu.Und das hier macht einfach Spaß.Von Song Nummer 1 bis 11…Durchweg Songs,die allesamt die 70er/80er-Punks in Beifallssturme versetzt…könnte ich mir zumindest vorstellen!Und wer meint,das man mit 62 zu alt ist „für den ganzen Scheiß“ wird hier eines besseren „belehrt“.

Und sind wir doch mal ehrlich-und das mein ich echt respektvoll: Ich persönlich brauche ERSTMAL kein Neues SKID ROW-Album…Gern darf Mr.Bolan noch SO ein Album rausknallen.

Seit „Novum Initium“,dem letzten Album von/aus 2013,ist viel Zeit vergangen…

Und „Chase The Light“ eröffnet mit fast sechs Minuten ein Album,das in seinem weiteren Verlauf auch so Kraftvoll bleibt.Quasi so,als wären die letzten 13 Jahre wie im Flug vergangen.Kernige Gitarrenarbeit,knallende Drums…UND Vocals,die gut rüberkommen und einfach zu der Band passen!Rick Altzi kann „ES“ eben“!Und Diskussionen anderer über ehemalige Sänger find ich sowie „doof“…Und das muss auch garnicht sein,denn wir haben 2026.Die Vergangenheit ist jetzt garnicht so wichtig!Ist auch nicht wichtig,ob man zwischenzeitlich das Label gewechselt hat…

MASTERPLAN haben nichts verlernt,IHREN Powermetal gut und gewohnt rüberzubringen.Was mir allerdings auffällt:Es gibt weniger Glattgebügelt…eher Kantiger und rauher in ihrem Tun!Und das geben die Songs gut wieder.Vielleicht liegt das auch an den tollen Vocals…Und natürlich-und das verwundert in der heutigen Zeit sowieso niemanden mehr-wurde im Studi auch gut gearbeit!

Insgesamt klingt alles sehr im Fokus,gut strukturiert und rauhstreckenweise wuchtig …ABER Geil!

Crying Steel – Agent Steel

Crying Steel is an Italian heavy metal band formed in Bologna in the spring of 1982  as one of the earliest heavy metal acts in Italy, the founding lineup included Alberto Simonini (guitar), Franco Nipoti (guitar), Angelo Franchini (bass), Luca Ferri (drums), and Luca Bonzagni (vocals). 
 
They gained underground recognition with early demos, a self-titled EP in 1984, and their debut full-length album On the Prowl in 1985. The band went on hiatus in the late 1980s but reunited in 2006, releasing further albums like The Steel Is Back! (2007), Time Stand Steel ( 2013), Stay Steel (2018 with Tony Mills as lead vocalist), Steel Alive (2019) and Live & Thunder (2024) while continuing to perform, even at WOA 2014, and evolve their lineup. 
 
As of 2026, the current line-up consists of Tiziano Sbaragli (vocals), Franco Nipoti (guitars), Paolo Nocchi (guitars), Marco Zirondelli (bass), and Luca Ferri (drums).  Their sound is classic metal where heavy riff joins catchy melodies.
 
The group’s new album „Agent Steel“ will be released on June 26th via Pride & Joy Music and was produced by Crying Steel and engineered by Roberto Priori (Danger Zone). The bonus track „No One’s Crying“ feat. Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) as guest on lead vocals.

Gründung im Jahr 1982…

Die 80er waren „Mein Ding“- Ohne Frage!Aber diese italienische Band hatte ich wohl garnicht auf dem Schirm…Das lag auch wohl daran das die Herrschaft 1987 ihr Debür veröffentlichten und „schlappe“ 20!Jahre später das 2.te Album…Aber man machte weiter und veröffendlicht NUN das 5.Album!Mit Veränderungen auf den Position der Vocals und an den Gitarren!Trotzdem bleibt die Band ihrem Stil mit klassischem Heavy Metal treu.Das ist auch gut.Man bewegt sich musikalisch so zwischen Krokus und und SAXON.“Lasst die Haare fliegen“!…kann ich da nur sagen!

Alles klingt rund insich…stimmig…frisch und keineswegs angestaubt!Ich und auch meine Ohren haben SPASS an diese Scheibe!UND die Gitarrenriffs treffen ins Ziel.Die Refrains klingen schön hymnisch und gehen gut in die Gehörgänge!Die Songs kommen schnell auf den gewissen Punkt!Das passt alles sehr gut zusammen!Gute 41 Minuten,die schön kompakt sind und mich zurückreisen lassen in meine geliebten 80er-Jahre.

Crying Steel erfinden das Genre nicht neu!Das ist mal Fakt!Aber dafür klingt das hier musikalisch sehr ehrlich und stimmig insich wie erwähnt!Klar…es gibt vielleich so 2,3 Songs die mir vielleicht nicht so gefallen.Aner in Summe ist das hier ein schönes,nettes Album,welches man schon gut hören kann.Von daher kann ich euch das hier auch ohne weiteres empfehlen.
