Vicious Rumors - The Devil´s Asylum

Fünf Jahre ist es her, dass die amerikanische Power Metal-Band Vicious Rumors ihr bis dato letztes Album veröffentlicht hat. Fünf Jahre, in denen Mastermind Geoff Thorpe und seine Belegschaft weit mehr als 150 Konzerte gespielt und mit einem Programm der wichtigsten VR-Klassiker ihre gesamte Laufbahn in komprimierter Form präsentiert haben. Diese Shows haben tiefe Spuren bei den Bandmitgliedern hinterlassen und gleichzeitig eine Menge neue Energie freigesetzt. Beides zusammen explodiert jetzt förmlich auf dem neuesten Album ‚The Devil´s Asylum‘, das Geoff Thorpe zutreffend mit den Worten zusammenfasst: „Auf ‚The Devil´s Asylum‘ gehen wir back to the roots, verbunden mit modernen Einflüssen.“ Er sagt: „Vicious Rumors blicken auf eine 45-jährige Karriere zurück, deshalb kann es für uns nur ein Ziel geben: Alles, was wir machen, sollte von größtmöglicher Bedeutung sein, jede Show, jeder Song, jedes neue Album. Diese Band stand immer schon für höchste Intensität, für kraftstrotzende Musik und viele neue, frische Ideen.“ Insofern könnte ‚The Devil´s Asylum‘ kaum typischer für Vicious Rumors sein und gleichzeitig auch neue Fans ansprechen. Veröffentlicht wird die Scheibe am 29.08.2025 über Steamhammer/SPV, bereits vorher werden mit ‚Bloodbath‘, ‚Crack The Sky In Half‘ und ‚Dogs Of War‘ drei Singles ausgekoppelt. Es gibt also viel zu erzählen, nicht nur über das neue Album, sondern auch über eine bis in die Haarspitzen motivierte neue Besetzung.

Zunächst einmal: Neben Bandleader/Gründer Geoff Thorpe ist Originalmitglied Larry (Schlagzeug, Gesang) weiterhin mit an Bord, vervollständigt wird der Nukleus der Band durch ihren langjährigen Bassisten Robin Utbult. Thorpes Songwriting, seine Gitarrenarbeit und sein Gesangsstil haben in Verbindung mit Howes/Utbults donnerndem Rhythmusfundament das Tempo von ‚The Devils Asylum‘ festgelegt. Zudem konnten Vicious Rumors ihr spielerisches Niveau durch zwei Neuverpflichtung auf ein noch höheres Level hieven. Da ist zum einen Sänger Chalice, von dem Thorpe in höchsten Tönen schwärmt: „Wir haben weltweit nach einem neuen Frontmann gesucht und bekamen zahlreiche Video-Bewerbungen, in denen die Kandidaten zu einem unserer Songs gesungen haben. Chalice dagegen schickte uns ein Video mit ausschließlich seiner Stimme, ohne jegliche musikalische Untermalung. Daher konnten man alle Facetten seiner Stimme klar erkennen, seinen Tonumfang, seinen grandiosen Ausdruck, sein Timbre, seinen Sound. Ich finde, niemand ist der Stimme unseres Originalsängers Carl Albert jemals so nahegekommen und verfügt gleichzeitig über eine ganz eigene Persönlichkeit.“ Zweiter Neuzugang ist Gitarrist Denver Cooper, der – wie Chalice – ebenfalls aus Cape Coral in Florida stammt. Thorpe: „Ich habe Denver auf der letzten Amerikatournee kennengelernt, wo er mit seiner Band NZM in unserem Vorprogramm gespielt hat. Er ein super Typ und großartiger Shredder-Gitarrist, ein echt cooler Rockstar! Als ich ihn anrief und fragte, ob er Interesse habe, war er total begeistert und hat sofort eingewilligt.“

Das noch immer anhaltende Hochgefühl aus den zurückliegenden Tourneen, der frische Wind der neuen Besetzung: Kein Wunder, dass ‚The Devil´s Asylum‘ vor Energie nur so strotzt. Innerhalb weniger Wochen zwischen Dezember 2024 und Januar 2025 haben Vicious Rumors die elf neuen Songs unter der Regie von Thorpe und seinen beiden Co-Produzenten Juan Urteaga (Machine Head, Testament, etc.) und Jimmy Evans, der auch kompositorisch an drei Songs beteiligt war, in vier unterschiedlichen Studios aufgenommen. Thorpe bezeichnet diese Zeit als „quick and intense period“ und präsentiert nun stolz einige der stärksten Stücke, die seine Band jemals aufgenommen hat. Darunter die erwähnten drei Singles, die von einer ruppigen Speed Metal-Attacke mit melodischem Gesang und thrashigem Gitarrenriff (‚Bloodbath‘) über eine für Vicious Rumors typische Mischung aus Aggressivität und eingängiger Melodieführung (‚Dogs Of War‘) bis zu einer wahren Hymne reichen, in der es darum geht, niemals aufzugeben und sein Leben in vollen Zügen zu genießen (‚Crack The Sky In Half‘). Unbedingt erwähnt werden sollte auch der Titeltrack des Albums, in dem Komponist und Texter Geoff Thorpe die derzeit unsichere Lage der Welt mit all ihren Irrungen und Wirrungen in deutliche Worte kleidet: „Die Zeiten werden halt immer verrückter, deshalb dieser Titel, der gleichzeitig die gesamte Scheibe perfekt zusammenfasst.“

Kein Zweifel: Mit ‚The Devil´s Asylum‘ haben Vicious Rumors ein Album produziert, das seine packende Härte auf perfekte Weise mit Tempo und Eingängigkeit verbindet. Thorpe: „Die Konzerte der letzten vier Jahre und unsere zwei Neuzugänge haben einen Sound geformt, der den klassischen Vicious Rumors-Stil mit modernen Elementen verbindet. Ich könnte kaum glücklicher damit sein!“

Geoff Thorpe, Gitarrist und Songwriter von Vicious Rumors hat hier ein Album geschrieben,das sowas nach vorne abgeht.Aber Grundsätzlich gehen ja die Alben dieser Band ja FAST immer in die RICHTIGE RICHTUNG:INTENSIVER Powermetal der Extraklasse!

„Bloodbath“, Dogs Of War“ und „High Hell Hammer“ sind "nur" 3 Beispiele des Albums,wie diese Band klingen MUSS,um auch das wiederzugeben was in ihrer Band-DNA schon seit ewiger Zeit fest verankert ist!Da werden keine musikalischen Kompromisse gemacht.Es geht in die Vollen!Nur so und nicht anders!"Anders" kann die Band nicht!Vicious Rumors - und sonst garnichts!

Vicious Rumors hört man sofort raus,wenn man irgendwo unterwegs ist.Und Sänger Chalice...Nunja...der Mann passt stimmlich einfach und bringt das Songmaterial so rüber,wie es sein muss und wie es klingen muss!Das hier ist ein Album,das in KEINSTER Weise altbacken klingt.Im Gegenteil.

Geoff Thorpe ist der Mann,der die Band 1979 gründete.Und es ist normal,das Besetzungswechsel stattfinden.Klar...es gibt auch Bands,die schon ewig in ein und derselben Besetzung unterwegs sind...Aber VR sind sich musikalisch immer treu geblieben und haben auch schlechtes Material auch wieder ins Gegenteil umgekehrt.AUCH Dank Geoff Thorpe,der es immer wieder schaffte,die Band am Leben zu halten und ihr den gewissen Stempel aufzudrücken.

Und wenn ich eines gelernt habe in all den Jahren:Vicious Rumors muss man bei voller Lautstärke hören!

Barnabas Sky - Over the horizon

Multi-instrumentalist Markus Pfeffer (LAZARUS DREAM, MYSTERY MOON, WINTERLAND) from Kaiserslautern/Germany launches the third album of his Melodic Rock all-star project.
In keeping with tradition, TYKETTO's Danny Vaughn again opens the album with the epic track “The Sign Of The Wolf”. He is represented with two songs, as are David Cagle (SILENT TIGER) and Dirk Kennedy (HITTMAN).
Tony Harnell (TNT) enhances the elegiac ballad “The Only Way” with his unmistakable voice, for which HEART LINE keyboardist Jorris Guilbaud contributed a string arrangement.
Lee Small (THE SWEET/LIONHEART) takes on the groovy “Lone Wolf”, which is reminiscent of old QUEENSRYCHE, the Swede Conny Lind (AMAZE ME) sings about social media on “Book Of Faces” and the title track is sung by the young up-and-coming talent Deibys Artigas (PREINCARNATION) from Venezuela, who doesn't have to hide behind his well-known colleagues with his distinctive voice and impressive vocal range.
Pfeffer combines edgy guitar riffs, filigree solos and shimmering synthesizer sounds with catchy melodies and has several melodic rock earworms on the album, such as “Platform Of A Star” (David Cagle), as well as overlong tracks such as the title track and the 9-minute epic track “Scirocco Sands” (Dirk Kennedy).
Despite the different voices and variety, the songs remain stylistically homogeneous and form a well-rounded whole.
The mastering by Rolf Munkes (Empire Studios) is responsible for the transparent and powerful sound, while the futuristic cover was created by Argentinian artist Nicolas Oliveros.

Ich mag ja Alben mit verschiedenen Sängern!Und wenn das dann auch noch Sänger sind,die "ES" KÖNNEN!Perfekt!Zumindest für mich.Das hier ist so ein Album,das mit seinen Melodic-Songs zu überzeugen weiß und eine gewisse Abwechslung mit sich bringt!Nicht nur die unterschiedlichen Sänger sind Klasse.Und solche Leute wie Tony Hamell von TNT und Danny Vaughn (Tyketto)...Ja...das sind schon Namen,die ihre Vocals mit diesem Album verewigten!

Auch das Songmaterial ansich ist sehr gut umgesetzt.Da gibt es ebenfalls sehr viel Abwechslungsreiches zu hören.Besonders der Gitarrensound "sägt" schön auf diesem Album und weiß ein und andere Mal zu überzeugen!SUPER!

Diese 10 Songs werden von Thomas Rieder getrommelt.Das klingt schön frisch,was er da "zaubert".Da kommt die Spielfreude am Schlagzeug sehr gut rüber!

Gemastert wurde das Album von Rolf Munkes in den Empire Studios.Naja...und der Sound?Wie Alben denn so meißtens heutzutage klingen...GUT und Klar!Die analoge Zeit ist nunmal vorbei...Eigendlich schade,aber die Zeit bleibt eben nicht stehen...

Fall & Resist - Dissolved in Misery

Australian melodic metal outfit Fall & Resist have today released the lyric video for “Living the Lie”, the opening track of their next EP release, Dissolved in Misery. The video offers a stark and immersive visual companion to the track’s exploration into dark and brooding music, exploring internal conflict, deception and emotional disintegration.

As the first song on the EP, “Living the Lie” sets the thematic tone for the release, one that fuses melancholic atmosphere with aggressive instrumentation. The lyric video enhances this duality, layering striking visuals with Frosty’s anguished vocals and the band’s driving, dynamic sound.

“This track captures that sense of being trapped in a version of yourself you no longer recognise,” says frontman Liam “Frosty” Frost-Camilleri. “The video takes that concept and gives it a harsh, bleak aesthetic that really resonates.”

Dissolved in Misery is said to be a shift toward a darker and more experimental territory for Fall & Resist, showcasing the band’s diversity and evolving sound. The release will introduce new guitarist Luke Murnane, whose contribution has allowed the band to broaden their sound, freeing Frosty to focus exclusively on vocal duties and his signature stage presence.

Fall & Resist have hinted at a creative collaboration with Dmitry, vocalist of brother-band Distorta. When asked about the collaboration, Frosty replied, “Those that know us won’t be overly surprised, but it’ll be pretty cool. I’m only aware of one other band who has done something like this before…”, hinting that the surprise will be available soon.

The release was met with critical acclaim and highlighted the band’s ability to balance serious themes with a tongue-in-cheek, interactive experience, a reflection of their playful yet uncompromising artistic ethos that fans have come to expect.

Dissolved in Misery will be out on all major platforms on 5 August 2025. The four-track release signifies a pivotal evolution in the band's sound, towards a darker and more brooding tone.

Band Bio
Formed in 2016, Fall & Resist hail from Victoria, Australia. The original lineup consisted of Liam "Frosty" Frost-Camilleri (guitar, vocals), Brendon Pyers (guitar, backing vocals), Rory Pyers (bass), and Benito Martino (drums). In 2025, the band welcomed guitarist Luke Murnane, enabling Frost-Camilleri to focus solely on vocal duties.
The band's debut EP, 'Buried Beneath' (2016), showcased their musical versatility and set the stage for their first full-length album, 'Fading Cinders' (2018). This album highlighted complex song structures and a balance of light and dark musical elements, with tracks like 'Severity' and 'Cinders' becoming staples in their live performances.

....und nochmal eine EP!?

Warum auch immer gibt es nochmal eine EP der Australischen Melodic-Metal-Band Fall & Resist!Grundsätzlich klingen die Jungs garnicht mal so schlecht....Doch eines muss ich mal sagen:Der Gesamtsound klingt einfach nicht-und ich drücke es noch gemäßigt aus!

Musikalisch kann man allerdings nicht meckern.Sie wissen,was sie da "tun"!Ideen und Spielfreude sind vorhanden.AUCH wenn es NUR 4 Nummern sind,diese EP beinhaltet,so sind diese vier Nummer schon sehr intensiv!Und genau deshalb würde ich mir mal ein Album mit minimum 8 Nummern wünschen,damit dieses,was man Talent nennt,nicht einfach vergessen wird!Denn Talent ist vorhanden.Das knallt schon ganz gut.

Klassischer AOR von 1999...Diese limitierte Edition ist auf 300 Exemplare begrenzt und enthält drei Bonus-Tracks.

Eines mal voeweg:Der Sound...wie soll ich das ausdrücken,ohne,das man mich an die Wand "nagelt"...Der SOUND ist grausam für meine Ohren.Und ich höre über keine schlechten Lautsprecher (KRK)...

Ansonsten erinnere ich beim hören etwas an die 80er und nicht an die 90er!Denn manche instrumentenparts und Arrangements sind 80er-Jahremäßig angelegt bzw. klingen so!Das wurde auch wohl mit voller Absicht so "gemacht"!Die Vocals...Der Mann singt.Und das meine ich auch so.Das gefällt mir,denn er "versucht da nichts verrücktes mit seinen Stimmbändern,wie so viel andere der JETZT-Zeit!Deshalb ist dieses Album auch musikalisch zeitlos und hat es auch in das Jahr 2025 geschafft!SUPER!

Das ist nicht nur klassischer AOR...Das gesamte Album ist schon jetzt ein Klassiker insich und ansich und sollte gehört werden.
